SCAM Alert: Warning to Arkansas Veterans

The Attig Law Firm has recently learned that there has been a rise in the number of businesses that are charging Veterans for disability benefits assistance.

Click here to read one recent story to learn more about this disturbing trend affecting Arkansas Veterans Benefits.

Let's be 100% clear:  Except for VA accredited attorneys charging a contingency percentage for representation in a denied Disability Benefits claim, or a BVA/CAVC Appeal, you should NEVER be charged a dime for filing a VA disability claim.

That bears repeating - NEVER pay for help filing a VA disability claim.

If someone does charge you for help filing a VA Disability claim, please report that company to your State Attorney General and the VA's Office of Inspector General.

Additionally, you can email the Attig  Law Firm and we will see if there is anything we can do to help.

Here are some ways to avoid getting scammed:

1) You should never have to pay a fee for filing a VA disability claim.  Most Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) do this for free.

2) No business - not a VSO, an attorney, or a private business - can promise you that they will get your claim granted.  Having said that, Veterans that are represented by a VA accredited attorney or Congressionally chartered VSO often fare a little better in their appeals. Even still, I never guarantee I can win a claim for a Veteran.  Who could know that?

3) If you are contacted by a group claiming to be a Veterans Service Organization or charity, ask for the callers name and phone number so you can call them back.  Research that the caller is who they say they are before you call them back.

4) Any attorney that represents Arkansas Veterans in their disability benefits claims and appeals at the VA MUST be accredited by the VA.  Attorney Chris Attig has been accredited since September 2008.  Don't believe me?  Here's a website to check out the accreditation status of any VA benefits attorney, VSO Agent, or Accredited Agent: http://www.va.gov/ogc/apps/accreditation/index.asp
