How to Survive the Performance Improvement Period (PIP)

Date: Friday, August 21, 2009

Time: 12noon-2:30pm Central time

Description: This Webinar will provide you a method and techniques for surviving the Performance Improvement Period (PIP). Most Federal Employees are surprised when they are placed on a PIP. Most Federal Employees are placed on a PIP because they don’t communicate their performance to their supervisors, don’t adequately document or record their performance to their managers, or don’t approach their annual appraisals in such a way that encourages their managers to give them higher ratings. Unsuccessful completion of the Performance Improvement Period could lead to demotion or removal from your Federal employment. Throughout the years of supervising employees, representing Agencies and Federal Employees in Performance Removal and Demotion actions before the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), I have developed a method that helps Federal Employees navigate the PIP with less stress and more confidence. In this course you will learn:

  1. How to better document your performance improvements for your manager
  2. Better communication with your manager about your performance
  3. How to give your manager a reason to rate you higher
  4. Preserving evidence about your performance in the event you do not pass the PIP, and the Agency removes or demotes you.
There is no guarantee that you will pass the PIP if you take this course. By following the guidance in this course, however, you will greatly improve your chances of successfully navigating the PIP. Even if you don’t successfully navigate your PIP, following this method will help you to develop evidence to support your MSPB appeal of a Performance Removal or Demotion. This webinar consists of 2 hours of teaching, followed by a 30 minute question and answer session. You will receive a packet of instruction materials prior to the seminar, including a PIP Handbook and a Performance Journal. This class is limited to the first 10 participants, so register soon! Limit of 10 participants.

Cost: $235.00 per participant if you register before August 14, 2009 ($285.00 if you register after August 14, 2009)
